Use the heater’s delivered output at conditions close to your pool, especially for a heat pump whose capacity changes with air temperature and humidity. The calculated time assumes all useful output stays in the water. Run a second scenario with a lower effective output to represent a windy or uncovered pool, then treat the spread as a planning range. If a spa shares the heater, calculate its smaller water volume separately rather than assuming the pool result describes spa recovery.
