Build a shutdown timeline
Watch one normal start attempt from a safe distance. Note the requested temperature, pump speed, display message, sounds and elapsed time until shutdown. Does the heater retry by itself? Does it remain off? Does the event coincide with a valve actuator moving or a variable-speed pump stepping down? Video of the display can be useful for a service professional.
Avoid rapid on-off testing. Some heaters impose delay periods to protect equipment, and repeated cycling can obscure the original fault. Never hold a contactor, bypass a switch or imitate a sensor input.
