Air has to go somewhere
A heat pump moves a large volume of air. Horizontal discharge sends it sideways; vertical discharge sends it upward. A fence, wall, roof overhang, shrub or adjacent unit can return cold exhaust air to the coil and hurt performance. The best chassis is the one that preserves the clearances in the manual on the actual equipment pad.
Crosswind V's vertical arrangement can help on pads where side clearance is scarce. The horizontal Crosswind may work well where there is a clear open discharge path and overhead space is constrained. Measure rather than infer.
Inverter operation changes the sound profile

Capacity at cool conditions
Inverter modulation does not cancel weather physics. Ask for capacity and COP at warm and cool test conditions for the exact model. If the household expects fast recovery during cold snaps, compare those numbers with a gas or hybrid alternative.
A cover is a particularly valuable companion because it reduces overnight evaporation. That can let the heat pump spend more time maintaining and less time recovering.
